What does MEWP stand for?

Historically these machines were known in industry at Aerial Work Platforms (AWPs). In the last few years it was more common to refer to them as Elevated Work Platforms (EWPs). Most recently, they are being know in industry as Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).

New MEWP standards went into effect in North America recently. ANSI A92 went into effect in June of 2020 and CSA B354 was published in May 2017. Manufactures of these machines are required to make changes to the design and must comply with these new standards. These new standards address wind ratings, chassis angle and load capacity on MEWPs.

If you would like to read more about these changes, have a look at the article from lift manufacturer Genie where they talk about fall protection requirements on Group B MEWPs.
