To protect our environment and reduce the impacts of climate change, the Government of Canada has committed to reducing Canada’s total GHG emissions to 40-45 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030, and to reach net zero by 2050.*

As the buildings sector is Canada’s third-largest source of emissions, prioritizing decarbonization is critical to meeting this net zero target*, and addressing climate change requires awareness, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and skill-building.

Funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program, the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC) in partnership with the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) has developed the Building Skills for Climate Change: Low-Carbon Training Program. This program is aimed at up-skilling building professionals, including architects, engineers, contractors, and owners and operators, to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon practices, reduce emissions, and contribute to Canada’s Climate Action Plan and Just Transition. This complimentary training will be offered virtually, in three half-day sessions, through CCA’s integrated partner associations in the federally mandated provinces of AB, BC and ON. The training will provide construction professionals with the fundamentals of low-carbon building retrofits or new builds, an essential step in advancing our industry’s contribution to greening our country.

Tim Tewsley

Working in the built environment space for the last 15 years, Tim helps owners, design teams and builders think about and implement sustainability in their projects. Tim has been a LEED accredited professional for 13 years, and is a certified Project Management Professional.  He is highly interested in how to connect people, culture, processes and money to move the industry toward critical environmental sustainability goals. 

Adam Hill

A certified Project Management Professional and LEED Green Associate  with nine (9) years of professional experience, managing projects within the field of the built environment ranging from less than US $1,000,000 to US $15,000,000 for both local and international clients.

Adam's formal education in Architecture has provided him with a grounded understanding of the built environment. This, coupled with the skills acquired throughout his career in Project Management and further education in sustainable practices, has resulted in my ability to engage multidisciplinary project teams to deconstruct complex project issues and develop workable solutions

Shafraaz Kaba

​Shafraaz is a registered architect and experienced in climate resilience and adaptation strategies with over 25 years experience with sustainable design. Shafraaz is well known for his commitment to sustainable strategies and integrated, community-based, collaborative design. He was co-chair and a founding member of the Energy Transition and Climate Resilience Committee of Council for Edmonton, where he helped develop the Community Energy Transition Stategy and Action Plan. Shafraaz enjoys coaching project teams to better results using collaborative delivery methods. Shafraaz’s experience as a registered Architect provides intimate knowledge of the design and construction process and brings a lot of value to the role of an integrator of sustainable design, climate and resilience measures.
